Former NDP Politicians Get Into Trouble

Former Windsor area NDP MP Howard McCurdy is facing criminal charges, while former BC NDP MLA Tim Stevenson is pleading guilty to drunk driving. You rarely read about New Democrat politicians engaged in illegal activities. But I must admit that these stories reminded me of the time former NDP MP Lorne Nystrom got caught shoplifting. He was never convicted.

And don't forget Svend!

There was that whole bingo-gate thing too in BC. Anyone else have any other examples?

Hmmm... none come immediately to mind but I will keep thinking on this.

It's true that the NDP is usually the exception for these things. Just recently Liberals and Conservatives have both had candidates drop out for having criminal records catch up to them.

Just today a liberal party worker was charged with fraud and forgery.

Most famous of all was the Conservative MP who killed his wife and and went to prison. This was decades ago... I've seen it documented before but couldn't immediately locate a reference.

I seem to remember an NDP MPP from one of the atlantic provices getting into trouble over some sort of illegal kick back schemes...?

Joshua is right... that does ring a bell. Happened in the past few months involving massive expense accounts and several resignations resulted. All parties were implicated, but that is no excuse.

P.S. Colin Thatcher was the Conservative MP who was jailed for murder. He is the son of former Liberal premier of Saskatchewan Ross Thatcher.

Probably too late for this to matter much... but the Atlantic scandal joshua mentioned is in the news again with all the background.
