CLC President Expecting a Challenge Next Month

Canadian Labour Congress President Ken Georgetti may be facing a challenge at the CLC convention in May. CUPE Ontario President Sid Ryan and Toronto & District Labour Council President John Cartwright are both being touted as possible challengers. I suspect the latter two labour leaders are upset over Georgetti's decision not to condemn the CAW's Magna deal.

Great! If he wins, Sid can move to Ottawa and be the losing candidate in Ottawa-South.

On a more serious note, do you have any insight into the significance of this potential shake-up? Georgetti has been a stalwart in the union movement, but I am less familiar with Ryan and Cartwright's record as union leaders.

actually, it seems the challengers have backed off, but a few affiliates (particularly the ones who hate the Magna deal) are still looking for a candidate.
